On August 22, the Parliament opens urgently on the issue of surveillance

“The Government seriously seeks to do what is required at the institutional and parliamentary level to investigate the case of the legal connection to Mr. Androulakis’s phone. The Speaker of the Parliament informed the Government of Mr. Tsipras’ request to stop the Parliament’s summer holidays and the appointment of an extraordinary pre-agenda debate on this issue in the Plenary.

The Government agrees to hasten the opening of the Parliament on August 22 and the definition of this debate within that week. It is noted that the Plenary Session of the Parliament was originally scheduled to start on August 31″, announced the government representative Yannis Economou.

Earlier he had made another statement, responding to a statement by the president of PASOK-KINAL.

“From the first moment that the prime minister was informed about the legal connection to Mr. Androulakis’s phone, the government sought to inform the president of PASOK-KINAL, which he persistently denies,” says the government representative.

Mr. Oikonomou points out that: “Apart from the Investigative Committee and the Institutions and Transparency Committee, which will also deal with the issue, Mr. Androulakis can always address and receive answers, in the proper institutional manner, from the competent authorities . He persistently refuses this option as well.”

And he underlines: “The connection to Mr. Androulakis’ phone is politically something that should not have happened, but its legality is not in doubt. If Mr. Androulakis and all those who pretend to doubt the legality want to make sure of it , they have only to refer to law 2225/1994. There they will find everything about the legal attachments for reasons of national security that do not exclude any subject from the scope. They will also find the signatures of all those who suggested it.

Finally, regarding Predator and other malicious software through which dozens of politicians and public figures in Europe have been tracked or attempted to be tracked, we have clarified that the Greek Government has not procured them and no security authority in Greece is using them. This is yet another remarkable persistence of Mr. Androulakis, the denial of this reality.”
