Metaverse, NFT, blockchain and cryptocurrencies. All of these technologies may seem futuristic to many people, but they are more in the present than you might think.
In the 18th episode of the No Lucro CNN podcast, a project by CNN Brasil Soft, Rita Wu, presenter and technology specialist, explained what each of these terms is and how they work, in addition to telling what are the expectations for the future of the virtual world.
“When we think of the metaverse in the future, as much as it is a virtual, immersive experience, we think of something more connected with our body as well. And it is this part of the metaverse that interests me most, this ‘hybridization’ of the virtual world with the physical,” he said.
Marriage in the Metaverse
In the conversation led by Leandro Munhós, Wu also talked about the experience of getting married in the digital universe, the costs and peculiarities of the ceremony outside the traditional. The entire process was documented in a webseries produced by CNN Brasil Soft, Metalove. The ceremony was the first in Latin America in virtual reality and took place at Decentraland, one of the largest and most recognized metaverses in the world.
Rita said that the idea came from a desire to do something in the metaverse. In a conversation with her husband André Mertens, she proposed that they get married in the virtual world. “I was working on some digital gallery exhibitions and I thought, ‘Wow, there are so many people talking about the metaverse, but few people actually doing anything’”.
Despite having done a non-traditional ceremony and not having regretted the experience, the presenter revealed that she missed physical contact with the guests on her wedding day. “I think now I’m going to want a more traditional wedding because I mostly missed giving my friends a hug,” she said.
