The company ESET, which is a developer of antivirus software, conducted a study, as a result of which it found out that Russia ranks first in the number of blocking of malicious sites. This is reported by the publication “RIA Novosti”.
The study, which was conducted from September to December 2021, says that Russia has the best number of blocked malicious sites in the world. By the end of last year, their share was 12.8%. In second place is Japan, which blocked 8.2% of the total number of such web resources. This is followed by Poland (5%), Peru (4.6%) and Ukraine (4.1%).
According to ESET, more than a third of all malicious sites in the world are registered in the United States. The remaining countries dominated by such web resources are China, Germany, the Netherlands, and France. On average, in September-December 2021, 4.8 million web threats and 400,000 unique malicious URLs were blocked every day. The most common threats were fraudulent and phishing sites, as well as resources with malicious software. It is reported that pages of banks, financial institutions and payment services, as well as Facebook and WhatsApp authorization pages, are most often faked.
The study also notes that ransomware has become more aggressive, and the spread of malware and spam through email is still high. There has also been a huge increase in threats on Android, especially fake banking apps.
