On the verge of emergency. Belarus illegally sends migrants from Iraq to Lithuania

Belarusian border guards facilitate the movement of illegal migrants from Iraq across the border to Lithuania. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania Agne Bilotaite, delfi.lt reports.

The Minister noted that four times a week flights from Istanbul and Baghdad fly to Minsk, from where migrants head towards Lithuania. According to Bilotaite, the price of illegal movement of a person across the border reaches 15,000 euros, a family – 30,000 euros.

“It is clear that officials from this side may cooperate and participate in this organized flow of illegal migrants. It is obvious that we live next to an unpredictable terrorist regime, and statements made a week ago that an unprecedented flow of illegal migrants awaits us. we can say that this is already happening, we are witnessing an increase in illegal migrants, “Bilotaite said.

As lrytas.lt writes, the Lithuanian authorities can declare a state of emergency in the border regions of the country, the decision can be made on June 21.

According to the head of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service Giedrius Mishutis, 387 illegal migrants from Belarus have been detained since the beginning of the year, which is almost five times more than in 2020.

“Over the past week, there was only one day when illegal migrants were not detained,” Mishutis said.

In the town of Pabrada, bordering Belarus, there is a registration center for foreigners – a tent camp for migrants is already being built there.

“It is expected that the city installation work will be completed on Sunday (June 20). The first residents will settle here at the beginning of next week (June 21),” the newspaper notes.
