Gari and writer from Rio de Janeiro Valdeci Boareto, aged 55, began his journey to the United States this week. The final destination will be the state of Massachusetts, where it should arrive this Friday (5) and where the famous Harvard University is located, which organizes the 10th edition of the Brazil Conference – an annual conference held since 2015 in Boston.
Author of the book “Behavior that saves you: Life under the eyes of a street sweeper”, which shares emotions and his trajectory in almost 30 years of profession, Valdeci will speak about basic sanitation.
“I want to tell them that basic sanitation is everything for the country to be prosperous and for the economy to grow,” said Valdeci, who works as a street cleaner at the municipal school Padre Manuel da Nóbrega, in the north of Rio.
The first plane trip will be in the company of Rio's municipal secretary of Education, Renan Ferreirinha (PSD), who is a co-founder of the Brazil Conference.
“We had taken Valdeci to the Book Biennial and when people saw him presenting his book, they immediately said: 'we need to have this writer writer talking about his experience, about his knowledge”, explained Ferreirinha, who will also speak In the event.
The conference takes place on April 6th and 7th (Saturday and Sunday). The event will also feature Brazilian celebrities, such as BBB 21 champion and singer Juliette.
“Rio de Janeiro is full of people who work every day, who strive and who just need the opportunity to go further. What we want, through stories like Valdeci’s, is to show that, yes, it is possible to make dreams come true through a lot of effort”, declared Ferreirinha.
