On August 30, 1918, Moscow experienced one of the most critical moments of the fledgling Soviet Union when the leader of the revolution, Vladimir Lenin, was shot in an attack that could have changed the course of world history. During a speech at the Michelson factory, two bullets hit Lenin and injured him, causing shock not only in the Soviet Union, but throughout the world. Behind this attempt were the sisters Fania and Dora Kaplan, two committed members of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (ESER), who opposed the Bolshevik line and the new order they were trying to impose.
