On this day May 7: One of the greatest recognizable pieces of music ever written is presented to the public, 200 years ago

Today marks 200 years since Ludwig van Beethoven's ninth and final symphony debuted at Vienna's Theater am Kärntnertor. The famous composer, although he has lost his hearing for years, himself conducts the first performance of the 9th Symphony, a work now considered one of the greatest musical masterpieces ever written. Beethoven at the age of 54 (and having started composing at about 10 years old) has already established himself as one of the greatest composers of his time despite having almost completely lost his hearing. During the presentation of the Ninth Symphony, Beethoven used the largest orchestra up to that time, while the use of vocals in addition to the instruments was innovative for the time.
