One dead and 43 trapped by cable car fall in Turkey

A major rescue operation is underway Saturday in Antalya, Turkey, as 43 people remain trapped in a cable car in the air after a support pillar collapsed on Friday. The rescuers are continuing the extrication efforts having so far saved 128 passengers, while there was also one person who lost his life. The accident happened, according to APE-MBE, on Friday afternoon (13.04.2024), when a cable car cabin collided with a pole, causing it to open and its passengers falling into space. Rescue operations continued throughout the night and at midday on Saturday, the head of Turkey's Search and Rescue Agency (AFAD), Okey Memis, said that “128 civilians in 16 wagons were rescued under very difficult conditions.
