One dead and many injured in Iowa school shooting

At least one person was killed and many others injured when a gunman opened fire this morning at her high school IowaABC News broadcasts, citing security service officers briefed on the situation.

The incident occurred at Perry High School on the first day of the spring semester, according to the school district's schedule.

Perry, a city of 7,900 people, is about 40 miles northwest of Des Moines.

Footage shown to me by American television networks shows strong police forces outside the school building.

There have also been reports of several helicopters on the scene to help transport seriously injured peoplesaid to be suffering from gunshot wounds.
