A video is circulating on social media and shows a group of people beating a Asian man wildly inside a subway station in Manhattan. The video, which appears to have been shot on Fulton Street Station, shows two men hitting the victim in the face and a third holding him still.
One of the perpetrators slaps the man and the face. A second one then starts punching him in the head. Young people celebrate and applaud their actions.
As of Sunday night, it was unclear whether the incident was being investigated as a hate crime against an Asian, a particularly acute problem following the outbreak of the pandemic.
The images were posted by the Asian Crime Report on its Twitter account on Sunday and retweeted by the NYPD Asian Hate Crimes Task Force, inviting the victim to contact them.
The entire video, however, was posted on another account on Friday, with the accusation that the man being brutally assaulted had tried to sexually assault a girl on the train. In this video someone is heard saying: “You who touch girls, you who touch girls – little sisters and moms and everything. Dirty “, according to the NY Post.
One of the men who slapped the Asian is heard saying that he has a daughter before his hand hits the victim’s face. “I have one daughter. “If the police put me in, I will pay the bail myself.”
Police are investigating the video and the incident.
