One night at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice

A luxury hotel, a short walk from St. Mark’s Square, but away from the crowd and in the middle of the green: it was the 50s when Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of the legendary Harry’s Bar, had the intuition to create a hotel that did not exist in Venice. The rest is history, because the Belmond Hotel Cipriani – inaugurated in 1958 – is an integral part of the history of the Serenissima: on the Giudecca, surrounded by water, with a panorama that goes from the Palazzo Ducale to the church of San Giorgio, it is among the most elegant and famous addresses in the world, and one of the most loved by the jet set. This is where they stayed during their Venetian holidays Lady Diana (it was here that he uttered – among the few times in his life – the phrase “I feel at home”), the President of the United States Ronald Reagan, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, along with many other movie stars, who have also chosen it to celebrate the most special moments: at Cipriani George Clooney e Amal Alamouddin they organized one of the most unforgettable parties on the occasion of their wedding.

To the cinema, on the occasion of the 1600 years of Venice, the Belmond Hotel Cipriani dedicates one of the great ones new this season: the photographic exhibition «From Venice with Love», With splendid shots by the famous British photographer Terry O’Neill. Until mid-November between marbles, works of art, Murano glass artifacts and Venetian stuccos will be on display sixteen black and white photos taken on the sets of legendary films – gives Diamons are Forever a Casino Royal – to celebrate the deep connection of the city and this iconic hotel with the cinematographic tradition, and to offer all of us the first good opportunity to return to admire it.

To see the exhibition just book a table in two of its restaurants: the Cip’s Club which seems suspended over the water where the great Venetian cuisine is savored with the view of San Marco in the eyes, and the Gabbiano, which is the exclusive bar next to its Olympic swimming pool with heated sea water (the only one in the center of Venice). Among the unmissable occasions to return there will also be an aperitif open to the city, in the Sala dei Granai, al “Doge’s table”: another tribute to the anniversary of Venice, it will be a princely table like those of the ancient glories of the Serenissima where you can taste dishes inspired by the recipes of the books of Bartolomeo Scappi, a Renaissance chef who personally cooked for Pius V, one of the greatest gastronomes of the time and famous for his sumptuous banquets. Instead it will be a “Social table” what will animate the summer of the hotel: a daily appointment, from the end of June, at sunset, with gourmet dishes prepared by the chefs accompanied by sophisticated cocktails (for example the Bellini invented by Giuseppe Cipriani, or the many cocktails that the hotel bartenders created with George Clooney) to taste among the rows of the vineyard that houses a part of the garden where Casanova courted his mistresses. A place full and beauty: a riot of flowers and plants, pergolas, with a tub with neoclassical statues covered with water lilies and surrounded by hydrangeas.

A taste of this iconic hotel, where every stay is an unforgettable stay, to live in princely rooms distributed between the main building and the Vendramin Palace from the 15th century, all full of light, with period furnishings, works of art, balconies and terraces overlooking paradise – the Lagoon, the Casanova gardens, the spectacle of San Marco – and with five star luxury services. The cuisine, for example, which at Cipriani also boasts one of the most chic addresses in all of Venice, that is Oro, the kingdom of starred Davide Bisetto, where every lunch or dinner is an experience that involves all the senses as you savor perfect dishes among the elegant spaces designed by the famous interior architect Adam D. Tihany. Wellness is no less: the Casanova wellness center it is surrounded by gardens, and offers treatments with only natural products inspired by the beauty of nature (the Casanova Garden Ritual is a must, with the scent of flowers).

Perfect completion, the many special experiences that the Belmond Hotel Cipriani has designed for its guests to discover Venice like no other: for example, on the occasion of the Terry O ‘Neill exhibition, he thought of a tour dedicated to cinema to discover sets of the most famous films shot in the Venetian sestieri with an exceptional guide. In addition, to celebrate 1600 years of Venetian history, this summer also offers visits to monumental libraries such as the Cini Foundation Library, San Francesco della Vigna Library and San Vidal Library: a paradise for those looking for precious and rare books, to be discovered by following the stories of expert curators. Furthermore, in November, to discover the ancient disciplines that have traveled the Silk Road, you can follow a course with a Kintsugi master (the art of fixing ceramics with gold, or silk printing workshops) followed by dinner at sunset suspended over the Lagoon.
