One of the factors behind the huge success of the Nintendo Switch isn’t available for PlayStation or Xbox. Families often buy a second box

The Nintendo Switch console, whose success was initially doubted by many analysts, is gradually approaching 100 million units sold.

As it turns out, the Switch’s success isn’t just due to its form factor, games, or price. Nintendo has another very significant growth factor.

One of the factors behind the huge success of the Nintendo Switch isn't available for PlayStation or Xbox. Families often buy a second box

Speaking to investors after the latest financial report, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that about 20% of Switch consoles sold in the last year (before March 31, 2021) were purchased by families who already own one console. That is, a fifth of the sales fell on the second console in the family. Full-fledged home consoles like PlayStation or Xbox never dreamed of this.

That same 20% is 5.8 million consoles. Furukawa believes that this direction will continue to allow Switch to sell very well. Given the pace, it can be assumed that by the end of this year Switch will be able to surpass the mark of 100 million units sold, probably beating the Wii and PlayStation.
