Court in the USA sentenced former head of the legal department and compliance of the OneCoin cryptocurrency pyramid, Irina Dilkinsk, to four years in prison and a fine of $111 million. After serving her sentence, she will spend another month under supervision.
According to the case materials, Dilkinska, along with Ruja Ignatova and Karl Sebastian Greenwood, was a top manager of the fraudulent scheme. She assisted in OneCoin's day-to-day operations while laundering money offshore in the Cayman Islands.
Dilkinska pleaded guilty in November 2023, but asked for home confinement due to the presence of minor children in Bulgaria. The court rejected the petition.
The OneCoin scam operated from 2014 to 2016. The project was positioned as a highly profitable cryptocurrency, in which investors received profit not only from the growth of the asset, but also from attracting new participants.
The damage from OneCoin's activities is estimated at $4 billion.
Greenwood was sentenced in September 2023 to 20 years in prison and a fine of $300 million.
Ignatova’s whereabouts have been unknown since 2017. She is on the Europol and FBI most wanted lists. In February 2023, journalists reported on the alleged murder of Ignatova. There is no confirmation of this information.
Earlier, Rudzha Ignatova’s brother, Konstantin, was released after three years in prison. He was credited with assisting the investigation and testifying against former OneCoin scheme lawyer Mark Scott. On January 25, 2024, the latter was sentenced to 10 years in prison for laundering $400 million and bank fraud.
