One of the most luxurious brands in the global hotel industry opens its doors in São Paulo

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts™, considered an ultra-luxury brand that manages 26 luxury hotels, resorts and homes in 15 countries, chose São Paulo to open its first venture in South America.

The hotel is located within the Matarazzo city, on Avenida Paulista, in the building of the former Maternity Countess Filomena Matarazzo, early 20th century construction. The Matarazzo City project cost around 2.7 billion reais, but the amount spent just on building the hotel was not disclosed.

Cidade Matarazzo is led by the businessman Alexandre allard, recognized for its involvement in the rebirth of Maison Balmain, and designed by important international creative players such as the renowned architect Jean Nouvel, winner of the Pritzker Prize, and the designer Philippe starck.

Expected to open in January 2022, the Rosewood São Paulo will feature 160 rooms and 100 hotel suites spread between the restored Matarazzo Maternity building and a brand new contemporary tower with vertical gardens designed by Jean Nouvel, as interiors of Philippe starck. All installations will feature a permanent art collection with more than 450 works by 57 contemporary Brazilian artists.

The facilities at Rosewood São Paulo also cover the Saint Lucia Chapel, another historic building that has been painstakingly restored to retain its ornate 1922 architecture. Throughout the renovation work, the chapel’s original foundation revealed intricately ornate pieces, which were remodeled and incorporated into the revitalized structure.

There will be plenty of options for guests and visitors in the food and beverage area, as the hotel will have six spaces led by chef Felipe Rodrigues, who recruits several female leaders to his team, having Rachel Codreanschi as an executive sous chef; Saiko Izawa pastry chef Ana Paula Ulrich as a mixology chef. Rachel Codreanschi has worked in kitchens in São Paulo and other countries, including the restaurant Salva Vida in Tel Aviv. Born in Tokyo and raised next to Mount Fuji, Saiko Izawa has years of experience in classic French confectionery and international inspiration from her experiences in São Paulo, Tokyo and Paris and was named best pastry chef of the 50 Best in Latin America in 2017. Ana Paula Ulrich is an award-winning mixologist, recognized by Mixology News as “Bartender Revelation of the Year” in 2020.

THE The garden will extend from the lobby to the hotel gardens, serving modern cuisine throughout the day. THE Blaise, inspired by the French-Swiss novelist Blaise Cendrars, will serve a mix of French and Swiss cuisine in the historic Maternity. In an intimate space, the restaurant will showcase the talent of local artisans with hand-drawn tiles and original woodwork. The third restaurant, Taraz, is located in front of centenary olive trees, and is inspired by South American cuisine with a menu created by the chef. Felipe Bronze — revolves around dishes to share and displays the art of wood-fired cooking. already the Rabo of Galo, a bar with live pocket shows, will serve classic Brazilian bar recipes with cocktails on lively nights. THE Emerald Garden Pool & Bar, a restaurant amidst intense vegetation, will serve family cuisine and the Belavista Rooftop Pool & Bar it will be an exclusive space for adults, with a panoramic view of the city.
