Two explosions rocked Jerusalem early on Wednesday, killing one person and wounding more than a dozen others in an alleged “combined terrorist attack”, according to an Israeli police spokesman.
The first explosion took place at a bus station near the entrance to Jerusalem, injuring at least 11 people, including one person who later died, the spokesman said.
After a second explosion nearly half an hour later at the city’s Ramot junction three people were evacuated with minor injuries, police added.
Initial investigations indicated that explosive devices were placed at both blast sites and a search for suspects is ongoing, the police spokesman said.
At the site of the first explosion, footage showed debris strewn across the ground and a parked bus with holes in its windshield. Metal railings around the bus stop were also damaged and the area was cordoned off.
Two paramedics from Magen David Adom, an affiliate of the Israel Red Cross, said that when they arrived at the bus station they found two seriously injured people lying on the ground.
“We were at the MDA station at the entrance to the city when we heard a big explosion,” they said. “We immediately proceeded to the scene in large numbers, including ambulances and MICUs (mobile intensive care units).” “Two seriously injured were lying nearby, a 16-year-old at the bus stop and a 45-year-old on the sidewalk.”
