A pileup involving ten vehicles left 22 victims on the southern section of Rodoanel Mário Covas (SP-021) in the early afternoon of this Tuesday (7). One person died and 21 were injured.
According to the concessionaire SPMar, the accident occurred at around 12:25 pm at km 63 of the inner lane, located in the Grajaú region (south zone of the capital of São Paulo. Two of the injured people had to be taken to the São Bernardo do Urgência Hospital Field.
The inner lane was closed until 3:30 pm. The blockage creates a traffic jam of 10 kilometers, between km 73 and km 63.
According to the Military Highway Police, there were, in fact, two accidents, with the first pileup occurring at km 63.
“The accident resulted in three victims, one fatal. Shortly afterwards, another pileup occurred at km 63,800, on the same lane, probably caused by the reduction in the flow of vehicles due to the first accident”, informs the PM.
The names of the victims were not released.
