This Monday (17) Brazil completes one year of the first application of the vaccine against Covid-19. Nurse Mônica Calazans received the immunizing agent Coronavac, at the time approved for emergency use by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), in São Paulo. Since then, the country has applied 342 million vaccines and immunized nearly 70% of the general population with two doses.

Aimed at children between 5 and 11 years old, the new stage of vaccination against Covid-19 in the country begins today in ten state capitals. Another ten capitals and the Federal District have already started immunization last weekend. In all, Brazil should receive around 4.3 million doses of Pfizer’s childhood vaccine by the end of January – with a target audience approaching 20 million.
Possible cure for cancer
Researchers at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), in Minas Gerais, have identified an unprecedented molecule that could contribute to cancer treatment. The substance has properties of action against cancer cells from selectivity, DNA division and cell death. Now, the scientists aim to develop mechanisms to place the molecule inside nanocapsules.
Second phase of Fuvest
The second phase of Fuvest’s entrance exam, the main means of entry for students to the University of São Paulo (USP), ends today. The 30,000 candidates will answer 12 questions about different subjects, which depend on the chosen career. The first list of approved candidates will be released in February.
Missile test in North Korea
North Korea carried out its fourth missile test in less than a month, raising tensions in Asia. The shooting was confirmed by Japan and also by South Korea. Kim Jong-un’s regime, on the other hand, claims to have the structure to “dribble” other countries’ defense systems.
