Last year, OnePlus announced the OnePlus 2.0 shell, named after the merger with OPPO. During this announcement, it was also announced the creation of a unified software that will combine the OxygenOS and ColorOS skins. Then the company representatives promised that the new software product will appear on one of the flagship smartphones in 2022. As a result, the flagship smartphone that many have been waiting for (OnePlus 10 Pro) was introduced last month and is currently only available in China. But the most interesting thing is that it still works on ColorOS. And today, February 11, OnePlus officially announced OxygenOS 13 – apparently to further confuse the whole story.
In fact, OnePlus has already turned OxygenOS 12 into a hybrid operating system, since it’s basically the same ColorOS, just with some extra tweaks. The company’s developers have already combined the main code of the two shells, but today’s announcement is clearly not what was expected. So what exactly is OxygenOS 13?
The formal announcement of OxygenOS 13 was an invitation to the open online forum Open Ears. Apparently, the shell will be based on Android 13, the final version of which will be presented closer to the fall. By then, the OnePlus 10 series should already be fully launched. It is possible that the company will retain the OxygenOS brand, even if the code for both shells is identical. It is also impossible to exclude the fact that the release of a unified OS is simply delayed. In any case, you need to wait for the event, which will take place on February 28.
