OnePlus has announced the new entry-level Buds Z2 wireless earbuds. Despite the fact that outwardly the new product does not differ from the previous model, it has active noise cancellation technology up to 40 dB and offers a longer battery life.
OnePlus’ new budget TWS earbuds this year got a hybrid ANC system along with a transparency mode that temporarily turns off noise cancellation when you need to hear ambient sounds. The manufacturer promises 5 hours of continuous playback with ANC enabled or 7 hours without ANC. This is how long the 40 mAh batteries located in each earphone can provide. The charging case is equipped with a 520 mAh battery, so the listening time can be up to 38 hours. The case supports fast charging, and 10 minutes is enough for 5 hours of music.
In terms of audio quality, the company says it should be roughly on par with the Buds Pro as it uses the same 11mm drivers. Three microphones work with AI algorithms to accurately pick up and amplify voices, and a special design prevents wind noise. The connection to the headphones is via Bluetooth 5.2 with low latency. The manufacturer also announced support for Dolby Atmos. The OnePlus Buds Z2 are IP55 dust and water resistant and the charging case is IPX4.
Like the rest of OnePlus’ TWS earbuds, this novelty works best with the manufacturer’s smartphones. If you are using a device from a different brand, you may have to dig into the settings using the HeyMelody app. There you can also check the charge level and update the headset firmware.
The OnePlus Buds Z2 are priced at $ 99 in the US and € 99 in Europe. The only available color option is pearl white, but next year they promise to release the headphones in Obsidian Black.
