Online shopping is expected to grow 2% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year. The data are from a survey carried out by the company NielsenIQ, released this Thursday (28). The survey heard 2,000 people across Brazil.
In addition to looking for gifts, Brazilians are also interested in buying fast-moving products online, such as “Food and Beverages” and “Perfumery and Cosmetics”.
The categories, respectively, represent 29 and 28% of the population’s consumption intention for the period, according to the survey. Within the two segments, the products most sought after by Brazilians are shampoo and conditioner, coffee, beans and rice.
According to the data, more than 91% of Brazilians interviewed by the survey must make purchases over the internet between the months of July and September. According to the survey, there is an increasing intention of the population to consume online, a trend boosted in the period of social isolation, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Father’s Day, celebrated in mid-August, is also directly related to the rise in online consumption in the third quarter of this year. According to the survey, the high-income population, between R$ 4 and 12 thousand, will be the ones who should buy gifts over the internet on the commemorative date. The expectation is for an average ticket of R$ 400.
On the other hand, despite the greater intention of online consumption in general, the demand for electronic products is expected to fall in the third quarter of this year. The drop in demand for this category is related to the increased price and high added value of the items, which makes acquisition difficult.
“The numbers show the size of the maturity of Brazilian e-commerce today. And the trend is for people to buy more and more online, especially food and cosmetics. Electronics had a fall, but will recover”, analyzed the economist and spokesman for NielsenIQ, Marcelo Osanai.
Finally, the study showed that the credit card must be the most used purchase modality in the period by Brazilian consumers – being used in almost half of all purchases in the period. Soon after, with approximately 30%, the cash payment appears. The rest of the purchases have as payment method the bank slips and booklet.
