Despite the fact that the final version of Android 12 was released back in October 2021, users who switched to it are negligible. This is evidenced by data from Uptodown, a third-party app store for Android devices with an active audience of about 130 million users.
According to Uptodown, only 2.6% of users switched to Android 12 six months after the release. This is the lowest of all recent versions of Android since 8.1 Oreo. The most popular version of Google’s mobile OS is Android 11, released in 2020. To date, it is installed on 29.5% of all mobile Android devices. It is followed by the version of Android 10, on which 25.2% of users remain. The third place with 11.5 percent share is occupied by Android 9. And the fourth line went to Android 8.1. Another 11% of gadgets work on this outdated platform.
The increase in the share of Android 12 is only a matter of time. However, the pace of adaptation directly depends on manufacturers, many of which are in no hurry to adapt their proprietary user interface and update their previously released smartphones to the latest OS version.

Uptodown also talked about the most popular mobile brands among its users. It turned out that 31.62% of users of the alternative Android app store prefer the gadgets of the South Korean company Samsung, 16.31% of users are owners of Xiaomi smartphones. In third place in terms of popularity with a share of 11.07% is Huawei. Rounding out the top five are two more Chinese brands — OPPO and Vivo with 5.17% and 4.35%, respectively. And the most popular browser among Android device owners is Google Chrome.
