Only a quarter of Britons think their country should be outside the European Union, according to a report published today, the lowest proportion since Britons voted to leave the European bloc in 2016. Britain will hold a general election on July 4, the first since the country formally left the EU in 2020. Although Europe has long been a divisive issue in British politics, the issue of Brexit has so far barely featured in the pre-election campaign. In the British Social Attitudes survey, carried out by the National Center for Social Research, 24% of respondents said Britain should be outside the EU, compared to 36% in 2019 and 41% % in 2016.
