Only 50% of Brazilians know that Brazil will host COP30, says study

COP30 will take place in November, in Belém, the capital of Pará, and will be the first conference of the parts held in a tropical rainforest. The forum has representatives from over 190 countries to make climate negotiations. As former Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira, the world told CNN, “the world will come to Brazil.” Even so, only half of Brazilians know that the country will host COP30.

Thinking about how Brazil is seen by the other nations and the Brazilians themselves, the Council for Sustainable Social Economic Development (CDDES) has commissioned an identity study of Opinion Box.

According to the survey, of the 3,266 Brazilians heard, only half indicates being aware of the fact that the next edition of COP is in Brazil. Knowledge is higher among men (58%), AB class (58%) and northern residents (69%). The margin of error of the research is 1.7 percentage point. The confidence interval is 95%.

The study then recommends “anticipating and intensifying the efforts of communication and construction of messages related to COP30, with special emphasis on other regions beyond the north, and in CDE classes.”

When respondents were asked about places representing Brazil, the Amazon appears prominent, being the response of 53% of Brazilians. Rio de Janeiro comes in second place, with 36%, beaches, with 33%, Sao Paulo, 30%, Pantanal, 22%, Brasilia, 16%, interior cities, 15%, and others, 2%.

How is Brazil seen by other nations?

The study shows that, considering the association of countries with personality traits, the world’s main way to look at Brazil is for fun.

In addition, 76% of foreigners choose Brazil to travel through the Amazon rainforest, which offers a unique mix of biodiversity and adventure. Already 75% is interested in visiting Brazil for the preservation and conservation activities of natural resources.

“Brazil is like a lively and fun friend, capable of leading you to the best adventures in nature, between beaches and forests. Weekend friend, but rarely present on Mondays,” says the project.

According to the study, 46% of Brazilians classified the country as “sick but with healing potential.” Another 34% consider a country “healthy”, 20%, “very sick”, and 3% “very sick and with no possibility of healing”.

In another question, about feelings about Brazil, 45% of respondents said they felt “hope” about the country. Another 34%spoke of “frustration”, 25%, “sadness”, 25%, “shame”, 12%, “pride”, 11%, “joy”, and 7%, “indifference”.
