It does not matter if we are talking about large cities or small inland towns in the Castellón regions: unemployment has been one of the side effects that the Covid-19 has had in the provincial economy.

Morella, the ‘jewel in the crown’ in Els Ports, laid off last year with 6.4 unemployed per 100 inhabitants when a year earlier it was 5 percent. In his case, the highest rate occurred in 2013 -10.8 percent- and the lowest occurred in 2017 -4 percent-. The town, of which the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, was mayor, registered 75 unemployed in 2020, among its more than 2,400 residents.
The capital of the Plana Alta, Castellon, increased its unemployment rate by two points, going from 15.9 percent in 2019 to 17.7 percent in 2020. Even so, Castellón is still far from touching the unemployment rate reached in 2012, 22.4 percent, but, on the contrary, it has broken the record reached in 2019. The capital of the province has 171,728 registered and a total of 15,504 unemployed at the end of 2020.
For its part, Segorbe, an economic and tourist booster in the Alto Palancia region, closed last year with an unemployment rate of 14.4 percent, while a year earlier it stood at 11.7 percent. The record, in the worst sense, was scored in 2012, with a rate of 22.4 percent. At the bottom, it took place in 2018, with 11.3 percent unemployment. The town has a population, according to the INE, of 8,978 registered, of which 633 do not have a job.
In the region of the Low Plain, Burriana in December 2020 it registered an unemployment rate of 14 percent, just over one point above that of 2019 -12.7 percent-. It is true that higher rates were registered in the historical series -22 percent of unemployment in 2012- but also lower -12.5 percent- in 2018. Burriana has a population of 34,683 people and 2,470 unemployed.
Finally, Vinaras, capital of the Baix Maestrat, closed 2020 with a rate of 16.8 percent, two points more than a year earlier. The highest rate was recorded in 2012, with 23.5 percent and the lowest in 2019, with 14.8 percent. The population totaled 28,682 registered in 2020, with 2,430 unemployed.
