OPAP: Completed the renovation of the pediatric hospitals’ Agia Sofia ‘and’ P. & Αγ. Sunday

OPAP, faithful to its commitment to create substantial value for Greek society, has completed the renovation of the pediatric hospitals “Agia Sofia” and “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou”. This is a significant investment in public health, in the framework of which 30 renovation projects were carried out, with a total area of ​​14,960 sq.m., which include 23 nursing units of international standards and a capacity of 564 beds.

The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, May 19, 2022, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Minister of Health, Mr. Thanos Plevris, the Deputy Minister of Health, Ms. Minas Gaga, the Chairman of the Board of Allwyn and the General OPAP, Mr. Karel Komárek, as well as representatives of the Greek State and the management of the company.

Top quality health services, in a pleasant environment

The renovated and fully modernized pediatric hospitals “Agia Sofia” and “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou”, which serve the needs of children from all over the country, now offer top level health services.

The project of their renovation started in 2014, within the framework of the Corporate Responsibility program of OPAP. The total of 30 projects that have been implemented include the following important interventions:

The complete reconstruction of the Central Sterilization Unit at the pediatric hospital “Agia Sofia”. This unit, which had not been renovated for more than 50 years, now has equipment of international standards and serves both hospitals, covering needs for which, until recently, required the involvement of other units of the NSS.

The complete modernization of the 2nd Pediatric Nursing Unit of the “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou” hospital, which contributes to the treatment of COVID-19 cases, thanks to the state-of-the-art infectious disease unit that was developed. This innovative unit features state-of-the-art negative pressure beds and automated systems.

The renovation of the Pediatric Surgery Units of the two hospitals, which are a reference point for pediatrics in Greece.

The complete renovation of the Day Care Unit of the “Agia Sofia” hospital, which now has a world-class surgical complex and resuscitation ward.

The creation of a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which responds to the highest international data, at the “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou” hospital.

As part of the renovation project, the pediatric hospitals “Agia Sofia” and “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou” have been equipped with the necessary office and hotel equipment. In addition, the electromechanical installations and the air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems have been completely modernized, and extensive aesthetic interventions have been carried out, which create a pleasant therapeutic environment for children.
