Openai announced the “student” mode in ChatGPT

Openai introduced a special training mode for students in ChatGPT, which helps to work out tasks in stages, and not just get a ready -made answer.

“Study Mode in ChatGPT is designed as an interactive experience: it uses the Socratic method and step -by -step tips to direct the user,” the announcement says.

The tool to call for the development of critical thinking-the chatbot asks the user clarifying questions to verify the understanding of the material. In some cases, he refuses to immediately give a direct answer if the student does not show involvement.

The mode is available for users Free, Plus, Pro, Team, and in the coming weeks it will appear for Edu. It was created in collaboration with teachers and experts, “becoming the first step towards improving the educational functions of ChatGPT.”

Chat bots are increasingly becoming an indispensable tool in the course of education, however, studies show that they can reduce the level of development of critical thinking.

“Education is one of the key areas of development of artificial intelligence. As part of Nextgenai and the initiative of Scale, the University of Stanford, we conduct long-term research in order to better understand how the II tools form the future of training, ”said Openai.

In April, a similar function called Learning Mode was introduced by Anthropic for its Claude.

The decision to use Study Mode remains with the student – he can always switch back to the usual mode to receive answers.

Recall that in July, CEO Openai Sam Altman said that personal conversations with Chatgpt were not legally protected. According to him, if necessary, the court may request all the information that users shared with the chatbot.
