AI startup OpenAI has launched a new search mode in the ChatGPT chatbot – Search. It “enables you to receive timely responses with links to relevant web sources.”

ChatGPT will decide to activate search mode based on the request. You can also select Search manually by clicking on the corresponding icon.

The tool is available on the website and chatbot apps to users on the SearchGPT waitlist and owners of paid Plus and Team subscriptions. The service will open for Enterprise and Edu in the next few weeks. A wider audience will be able to take advantage of Search’s benefits “in the coming months.”
OpenAI promises to provide the best answers to a search query, rather than having to dig through multiple sources yourself as part of a traditional search. If you go deeper into a topic, ChatGPT remembers the entire context of the chat.
The company has partnered with news and data providers to add timely information on stocks, sports, weather and maps.
The search mode is based on the GPT-4o AI model, it was trained using new methods for generating synthetic data.
