AI startup OpenAI has introduced a new artificial intelligence model, GPT-4o mini. This is written by CNBC.
The company described it as “the most powerful and cost-effective small model available today,” the channel notes. OpenAI plans to integrate image, video and audio processing capabilities into it in the future.
GPT-4o mini is a spin-off of the company’s current flagship model, GPT-4o, which launched in May. The “o” in GPT-4o stands for “omni,” which represents a step toward more natural human-computer interaction.
A smaller model may be better suited to automating a large volume of basic tasks, while a top-end one can handle heavy lifting.
CNBC notes that the GPT-4o mini model is part of OpenAI’s push to become a leader in “multimodality” — combining text, images, audio, and video into a single tool called ChatGPT.
GPT-4o mini will be available to non-ChatGPT users, as well as ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers, starting July 18. Enterprise customers will be offered it next week.
OpenAI previously developed a five-tier scale for assessing the development of artificial intelligence and placed its AI between first and second.
