OpenAI’s New Chatbot Will Outperform GPT-4o by 100x

The team behind AI startup OpenAI is preparing to launch a new large language model (LLM) that will replace GPT-4o. The flagship product, called GPT Next, is expected to evolve 100 times faster than its predecessors.

According to AI developer Sean Ralston, the next generation of LLM could hit the market by the end of 2024. The project was developed under the code name Project Orion, and its main goal is to set previously unattainable standards in its software category.

OpenAI Japan CEO Tadao Nagasaki, speaking at the KDDI SUMMIT 2024, announced a multiple increase in the speed of LLM training. In his opinion, this is a common phenomenon in the AI field, since in this field, with each iteration of the product, its capabilities are greatly expanded.

“Unlike traditional software, AI technology is growing exponentially. So we want to support the creation of a world where artificial intelligence is integrated as soon as possible,” Nagasaki said.

Analysts note that GPT Next will not only be trained on the well-known sources used by GPT-4o. It has also been given the opportunity to receive data from another OpenAI product that is preparing to enter the market soon: the Strawberry AI model.

This development will allow OpenAI to significantly bring the level of development of services based on artificial intelligence closer to the capabilities of the human mind, experts believe. Strawberry will not only be able to reason, but will also scan the Internet autonomously, as well as conduct in-depth research, analysts say.

GPT Next will use the model mentioned for its own training. This, according to Nagasaki, will have a strong impact on the chatbot’s capabilities. At the same time, Strawberry’s data will not be available to ordinary users, experts believe.

Another feature of the new chatbot should be advanced multimodality, the authors of the scientific journal admit The Information. This will allow for seamless integration of text, graphics and visual materials. Analysts believe that in this way, OpenAI can compete with products from Google.

Earlier it became known that the AI startup intends to attract over $1 billion in investments with an assessment of $100 billion. Financial injections should come from the venture fund Thrive Capital. Microsoft Corporation may also take part in the new capital collection, the media claim.
