Opera built ChatGPT into the sidebar: AI can generate summaries of articles and more

Some time ago, insider information appeared that the developers of the Opera browser want to use the latest ChatGPT chat bot in order to improve search results and more. And today, February 12, The Verge news outlet announced that the developers have already built the ChatGPT artificial intelligence tool into their browser – new features implemented on the basis of the chat bot are built into the sidebar and allow users to not waste time reading long articles. , news or anything else. The system itself will “read” the material for the user and will give out only important and useful information.

To activate the “shortcut” function, the user needs to click on the corresponding “Shortcut” button to the right of the address bar of the browser, after which a side panel with the ChatGPT chat bot will open. As a result, an artificial intelligence-based system will analyze an article or news, remove everything unnecessary, and then build a summary in the format of small abstracts separated by markers. And this function, of course, will be extremely useful when studying scientific materials, preparing essays or finding answers to certain questions. However, it is worth immediately clarifying some features of the work of artificial intelligence, which you must definitely pay attention to.

To begin with, it is worth emphasizing that ChatGPT is quite often wrong. For example, the scenario in which one egg, according to artificial intelligence, needs to be boiled for 15 minutes, and two for 30 minutes, has long become a real meme. Accordingly, no one guarantees that the technology will correctly perceive technical or scientific articles, and even ordinary news. So a summary will help, of course, to understand the essence of what is written in the shortest possible time, but the system can always miss and not take into account something that is actually very important and valuable. This means that a user who wants to rely on the information received will still have to re-read the article later.

And, unfortunately, so far the summary feature is not available to everyone, as it is still being tested. But there is good news – Jan Standel, Opera’s vice president of marketing and communications, told The Verge that the feature will go into full release very soon and will be available to everyone. What’s more, the company is already actively working on other AI-powered features that can enhance the ability to quickly browse pages and content, as well as allow you to search for meaningful information faster. Perhaps the era of keyword search is fading into history.
