Opera GX has a space arcade – an analogue of a dinosaur from Chrome

In the browser Opera GX, which was created specifically for gamers, there was an arcade space shooter Operius, which you can play without an Internet connection. The developer’s blog says it is “the most awesome offline browser game ever” that was selected by an expert jury along with seven other Opera GX Game Jam finalists, and won by a public vote.

Operius is created by indie developer Mors. This is a retro-style arcade shooter set in the future when all computers in the world are disconnected at the same time. An unidentified flying object appears on the screen, which must be destroyed in order to save the Internet. However, a horde of alien invaders stands in the way of the player, collisions with which must be avoided.

While some offline browser games seem too cliché and outdated, Opera pays homage to the popular arcade shooters of the 80s. Even the soundtrack from Catonator adds adrenaline. All this suggests that Operius is a game aimed at gamers and not at office clerks or ordinary users shopping in an online store. Moreover, it even has multiplayer – a mode for two players on one keyboard.

More than 900 games created in GameMaker Studio 2 took part in the competition. Games that took 2nd and 3rd places will be placed on a future platform that will allow developers to publish their creations and users – to play them for free.

Operius will automatically appear in the browser when the Internet is disconnected, but you can play at any time – just type opera: // operius in the address bar.
