Operation Ouro Viçado, against illegal gold extraction in the Sararé Indigenous Land, in Mato Grosso, managed to find and destroy 39 stationary engines, 22 loaders, two water pumps, a generator and two jackhammers.
According to PF delegate Rodrigo Vitorino Aguiar, all the destroyed machinery is worth R$1 million.
The action lasted three days of integrated operations, with barriers on the main access roads to the Indigenous Land and incursions into the forests and areas affected by miners. The territory is in Pontes e Lacerda (MT).
Two planes were used in the operation, one from the Mato Grosso Air Operations Center (Ciopaer) and the other from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), in addition to boats.
The joint action is between the Federal Police and the PRF, the Brazilian Army, Funai, and the National Force and was completed this Sunday (14) evening.
“Each body had its role. The PRF built barriers, the Army blocked bridges to indigenous land, and on the second day there were incursions. Funai carried out a preliminary survey and the PF carried out the investigation to identify the sources of armed threats and the location of the loaders”, added delegate Aguiar.
According to the PF, investigations continue to identify the financiers of illegal mining activities and decapitalize the criminal organization. “By usurping gold of illegal origin, it directly finances the degradation of the environment, decimates the indigenous population in the region and pollutes the rivers that supply the municipalities, consequently generating enormous economic, social and environmental damage”, says the PF.
