Operation in prisons in Brazil seizes more than 800 cell phones in cells

The Federal Penal Police seized 894 cell phones in 133 prisons in Brazil, according to a balance released by the National Secretariat of Criminal Policy (Senappen) of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

Focusing on cell phones, used for prohibited communication inside prisons, the operation also fought other types of illicit objects. The action took place jointly in arrests from 26 states and the Federal District.

According to Senappen, 5,159 cells were searched between March 17 and 28. The “comb” was part of the seventh phase of Operation Mute. In addition to all phases, the operation has already collected 6,274 devices used irregularly in prisons.

Still based on the balance released, to the seven phases feature, R $ 26,000 have already been seized in a single cell, seven pounds of marijuana in a penitentiary, tickets, 87 precision scales, three firearms, four explosive artifacts, machetes, sexual stimulant and two video games. The criminal police also found clenched bars and a tunnel out of one of the prisons.

“With each operation, continuous results make it more evident that the operation directly impacts the reduction of CVLI (Intentional Lethal Violent Crimes),” said Cezar Delmondes, Project Coordinator and Senappen Penitentiary Intelligence Innovation.

In total, during the seventh phase, in addition to the cell phones were seized 16 routers, 19 pen drives, 179 headphones, 449 cell phone chips, 373 telephone chargers, 326 drilling materials.

There were also 15 precision scales, 2,676 portions of marijuana -like substance and 1,337 portions of cocaine -like substance.
