Operation investigates a millionaire blow with pies franchise in Rio

Agents of the 12th Copacabana Civil Police Station triggered, on the morning of Wednesday (02/04), an operation to fulfill four search and seizure warrants in luxury addresses in Barra da Tijuca and Parish, in the West Zone of Rio, and in Queimados, in Baixada Fluminense.

According to the chief delegate, Ângelo Lages, the investigations pointed to a fraud scheme involving franchises of pies stores, which damaged several victims .

“Many of them have invested their economies hoping to open a kiosk, but never received from the establishment. Others were installed at commercial points with late rents and ended up dumped, losing all the investment,” said the delegate.

The investigators revealed that one of the victims even paid almost $ 300,000 and, after insistent charges, received checks that returned for lack of funds. To date, about ten victims have been identified, with estimated loss of R $ 1 million, not to mention the outgoing profit.

The investigation found irregularities in the contracts, as the brand did not have a record in the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property). In addition, different legal entities were used as alleged owners of the franchise.

Police reported that those involved, who initially believed they were realizing a big dream, now live a nightmare, marked by material and emotional losses.

The analysis of seized documents follows as an essential part of this initial phase of the investigation, which may trigger new precautionary measures and deepen suspicions of money laundering and criminal association.
