Operation that frustrated attack on the Lady Gaga show was kept confidential

The “Fake Monster” operation, an intelligence work that avoided an attack on the bomb during the show by singer Lady Gaga in Copacabana, was conducted in absolute confidentiality by the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police.

According to the public safety summit, not even the artist’s team was informed about the risk. The strategy, according to the authorities, was adopted to avoid panic and the dissemination of false information on social networks.

“There was intelligence information that there would be some attacks during the event. The Civil Police, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, acted silently, without fuss, without any panic to the population, and neutralized the threats,” said Felipe Curi, Secretary of Civil Police.

Investigations began ten days before the show, after the Civil Police intelligence service identifying messages exchanged by users of an Internet platform with content that was risk to fan safety, including explosion threats.

On Saturday (3), a joint operation with the Ministry of Justice fulfilled 15 search and seizure warrants against nine targets, including adults and adolescents. The investigated group promoted “challenges” and violent content in four states: Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Sao Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul.

“The merit of Operation ‘Fake Monster’ was to maintain confidentiality. It involved four states, and you could generate unnecessary panic and perhaps even, by a unilateral act of production or the artist itself, provoking the cancellation of the show. It would be harmful to the image of the river. This integration is what delivers the positive result we have seen in major events,” said Victor dos Santos, secretary of public security.

Despite the threats, the authorities pointed out that the event, which brought together 2.1 million people, took place without serious occurrences. 240 occurrences were recorded at the region’s police stations, 95% related to cellular theft.
