Operation to combat environmental crimes in AM has no end date

Authorities and government agencies are promoting Operation Atmosphere to combat environmental crimes in the state of Amazonas. The operation is being carried out by the Federal Police, together with the Federal Highway Police and Ibama, and also has the support of the National Force.

The objective of the operation is to identify and combat forest fires and deforestation in federal conservation units, especially in the region of the municipality of Apuí, in the south of the state of Amazonas.

Using geoprocessing systems, teams are monitoring the area to locate the origins of environmental crimes.

The operation is taking place at a critical time in the state and in the Amazon biome. The region is facing a severe drought and a wave of forest fires, many of which are criminal acts for land clearing and land grabbing.

According to the Federal Police, the operation will continue without a final date.

So far, two backhoes, two chainsaws, two brush cutters and a blower have been seized. The operation also destroyed camps of environmental criminals and investigations are underway.

More than 1,750 kilometers were covered in the operation and around 7 thousand hectares of degraded areas were inspected.
