Operation to combat violence against women has already determined 20,000 protective measures

Operation Átria, coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, determined 20,540 urgent protective measures for women victims of violence in Brazil.

The number represents half of the total number of victims assisted from February 27 to March 21, when 42,864 women went to the police.

The data are from the National Secretariat of Public Security and were released this Tuesday (21). The survey also points out that 432 women were rescued from some prison situation.

During the period, 4,255 aggressors were arrested, of which 3,598 were caught in the act.

The civil and military police of the states also seized 235 firearms, 4,657 ammunition and 328 knives.

According to the national secretary of Public Security, Tadeu Alencar, the data are expressive for three weeks. The final balance should be released on March 28th.

“Violence has to be monitored in real time. Even to curb femicide”, declared the secretary in an interview with journalists.

The operation is coordinated by the National Secretariat for Public Security (Senasp) and articulated with the state security secretariats in reference to International Women’s Day.

“This is a central and priority issue for President Lula and the Government as a whole has been working hard to formulate and implement public policies that address this unacceptable violence against women in Brazil,” said the National Secretary for Public Security, Tadeu Alencar.
