OPPO has a foldable smartphone Find N: a unique form factor and a fold-free display

OPPO took its time to develop and release its first foldable smartphone. Over the past four years, the project has gone through six different prototypes, each leading the Chinese manufacturer to a recipe for the perfect model. Finally, OPPO Find N is officially presented – today, December 15, as part of the second day of the Inno Day 2021 corporate conference. Some design technologies make the novelty unique in the market, which in recent years has begun to be filled with competitors.

The main difference between OPPO Find N and its counterparts lies in the form factor. The external screen has an aspect ratio of 18: 9, thanks to which the inner panel unfolds in the 8.4: 9 format (a little narrower than a square). To put this in perspective, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is equipped with an external display of 25: 9, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is 27: 9, and the Huawei Mate X is quite close to the usual 19.5: 9 ratio, like most modern flagships. Moreover, the Find N case is more compact and easier to use due to the small 5.49 “diagonal on the outside (when unfolded it turns out to be 7.1”).

The Find N has also developed the high-tech Flexion hinge: a sophisticated 136-piece mechanism that serves two important purposes. First, it folds the flexible display down in a teardrop shape, making the fold 80% less noticeable. Secondly, it eliminates the wedge-shaped gap between the two halves when folding the smartphone, which can be considered the most innovative design to date.

Other technologies involved in the OPPO Find N concept:

  • The FlexForm hinge allows the two halves to be held at any angle from 50 to 120 degrees, allowing the smartphone to act as its own tripod for long video calls or time-lapse photography.
  • 12-layer Serene Display panel with Flexion Ultra Thing Glass, which is much thinner than competitors – 0.03 mm versus 0.6 mm.
  • Internal display LTPO AMOLED with adaptive refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz in accordance with the viewed content, sampling rate of the touch layer up to 1,000 Hz and brightness up to 1,000 cd / m² with 10 240 gradations.
