Oppo talks to Tesla and prepares to launch its own cars

Recently, there have been frequent reports of smartphone makers seeking to enter the automotive market. Oppo intends to build its own vehicles, sources say.

According to Xiuxiushai, CEO and founder of Chinese tech giant Tony Chen is likely to spearhead the project. According to the source, Chen and his team have spent the past couple of weeks researching resources, hiring talent from the industry, and generally testing the viability of the project. A person close to a senior official at Oppo also stated that the company is currently only conducting research and discussions on car production, but has not yet formally established the project.

In car manufacturing, we will focus on areas where Oppo can do well. If carmakers can’t make good cars, and Oppo has the strength, we’ll give it a try.
