Some time ago, insiders reported that OPPO will officially present the completed assembly of its own ColorOS 12 firmware based on the Android 12 operating system in mid-September. And today, September 16, it turned out that the insiders did not miss – the smartphone manufacturer really presented a new version of the proprietary firmware. Thanks to this, you can roughly understand what smartphones OPPO, OnePlus and Realme will be like after updating to the latest mobile operating system Google.
Visual updates
As expected, OPPO has significantly redesigned the user interface based on a new design concept – completely redesigned icons, new animations, emoticons, avatars and much more. Also, the elements of the user interface have been redesigned so that the user can comfortably receive information – the elements are spread across the screen, leaving free space for greater contrast between the interface and the text.
Smooth animations and improved performance
The developers from OPPO had to make a number of significant changes to improve system performance and allow owners of smartphones of the brand to comfortably use ColorOS 12. For this, the Quantum Animation Engine was integrated into the proprietary shell for Android, which significantly improves animations, making them smoother, and viewing web pages are much more comfortable for the eyes. OPPO has even stated that their animations are the most realistic and user-friendly. To improve performance and smooth operation, an artificial intelligence mechanism is also used (AI can prioritize certain applications so that the smartphone runs smoothly enough, but at the same time consumes less power).
New features in ColorOS 12
In addition to the new features that were introduced by Google in Android 12, OPPO has given its own firmware several new features. For example, the FlexDrop function, which is responsible for multitasking, has been significantly improved – now it allows simple gestures to switch between applications, drag and drop them and launch software in various window demonstration modes. The Smart Sidebar 2.0 has also appeared with new functions (there are six of them in total) that greatly simplify life – you can quickly compare the prices of goods on various sites, play a song from the Internet, and so on.

The long-awaited inter-screen connection function has also appeared – you can connect the screen of a smartphone and a PC (on Windows 10 and newer) with just a few clicks. Thanks to this, you can control your smartphone from a computer, transfer files, edit documents from the smartphone’s memory and more. For motorists (preferably Chinese), ColorOS 12 has a nice smartphone screen projection function – this function is already supported by mapping services like Baidu Maps, Kuwo and Ximalaya. OPPO also took inspiration from Apple’s design by introducing its own 3D avatars called Omoji.
Increased privacy and security
Additionally, in ColorOS 12, the developers have implemented several interesting features that increase the level of personal privacy. For example, now the smartphone will notify the user that a certain application is using a microphone, camera or smartphone geolocation. There is also a detailed menu for managing permissions for applications so that the user can understand what the software has access to and can, if necessary, take this access. And in ColorOS 12, the user can remove metadata from any images before sending them to increase the security of information exchange.

The OPPO Find X3 Pro Photographer Edition will be the first smartphone to ship with ColorOS 12 right out of the box. OPPO also announced that it will open the ColorOS 12 beta program for the Find X3 and OnePlus 9 series in October. The A95, A93, Ace 2 and OnePlus 8 will receive their first beta of ColorOS 12 in December.
