OPPO has expanded its line of smartwatches with the launch of the OPPO Watch 2. This gadget is a direct successor to last year’s smartwatch, which debuted in China, but may soon be launched in other markets. The novelty adheres to the previous design, inspired by the Apple Watch series of smart watches.
The device has a curved AMOLED display along the edges and two physical buttons on the right side. Inside is the Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset, which is a big improvement over the Snapdragon Wear 3100 in the previous model. Along with the new platform, the gadget is also equipped with a special Apollo 4s coprocessor developed by Ambiq.
The watch is equipped with Ultra Dynamic Dual Engine (UDDE) technology, which OPPO claims to significantly extend battery life. In terms of health and fitness tracking functions, the new product boasts over 100 sports modes, 24/7 heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen (SpO2) levels, stress, sleep and so on.
OPPO Watch 2 is presented in two versions: with eSIM technology, which offers the ability to connect to LTE networks, supports voice calls and their forwarding, and also without eSIM. The first generation watch model also had an eSIM version, but it was never released outside of China.
The device runs ColorOS for Watch based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The international version will most likely run Wear OS. The manufacturer claims that the 46mm version of the watch works without recharging for up to 4 days in smart mode and up to 16 days in power saving mode. OPPO Watch 2 supports VOOC 2.0 proprietary charging, which provides a day of battery life with just 10 minutes of charging. GPS support, water protection and other characteristics of the novelty have not yet been reported.
The OPPO Watch 2 is already on sale in China starting at RMB 1,299 (about $ 200) for the 42mm model without eSIM. The eSIM option will cost RMB 1,999 (approximately $ 307).
