Opponents Sunak and Starmer vote in UK parliamentary election

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak cast his vote early Thursday (4) in the UK general election. Sunak entered the polling station in Northallerton accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty.

Labour leader Keir Starmer, who is favourite to win, has also cast his vote. Starmer and his wife Victoria arrived at the polling station in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency in north London.

Opinion polls predict that Labour leader Keir Starmer will win a majority in parliament, ousting Sunak’s Conservatives from office after an often turbulent 14 years, with five prime ministers in eight years.

The country’s 40,000 polling stations opened at 6 a.m. local time and are not expected to close until 10 p.m. local time. Official results are expected to be released in the early hours of Friday (5).
