The GSMA Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWC Shanghai 2021) kicked off today, where Oppo unveiled its wireless over-the-air charging technology for mobile devices.

Specifications have not been disclosed, but well-known insider Digital Chat Station claims Oppo’s air-charging capacity is 7.5W. A 30-second video was also published, in which the operation of wireless charging is demonstrated on the example of a smartphone with a sliding screen Oppo X 2021. First, the smartphone lies on the charging station, then it is gently lifted to a distance of several tens of centimeters, while charging does not stop.
It is quite possible that this technology is not yet ready for the stage of commercial use, like the Oppo X 2021 smartphone itself. It was presented in November, then the design engineer of the company Jin Xiang said that the phone passed 100,000 tests to open and close the structure without any damage, after which he could continue to carry out his work further.
Oppo later stated that the company had no short-term plans to mass-produce a device with this design.
