Oprah Winfrey took issue with Ohio Senator JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential candidate,’s comments about “childless cat ladies” in a speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday (21).
“When a house is on fire, we don’t ask about the homeowner’s race or religion. We don’t ask who their partner is or how they voted. No, we just try to do the best we can to save them. And if the place belongs to a cat lady with no children, well, we try to get that cat out of there, too,” Winfrey said.
His comments are a reference to a 2021 interview on Fox News, where Vance, then a candidate for Senate in Ohio, told Tucker Carlson that the United States was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are unhappy with their own lives and the choices they’ve made and therefore want to make the rest of the country unhappy as well.”
