Developers of the second-tier solution for the Ethereum Optimism network have begun distributing OP governance tokens to community members. The load was so great that the Optimism network began to fail.
Official ads there was no airdrop of OP tokens yet. The developers emphasized that they are working on “providing more network capacity” ahead of the official announcement.
Performance delays were recorded both in transactions and in remote procedure calls (RPC). RPCs allow third-party applications to take advantage of Optimism’s capabilities. For example, use the MetaMask wallet or other wallets, as well as interact with other blockchains. Therefore, users could not sell or buy OP tokens. The developers managed to solve the network problems in a few hours.
“We have learned a lesson and a lot of knowledge that will apply in the second distribution of tokens,” wrote the developers of Optimism.
Recall that the right to participate in the distribution of OP management tokens will be given to cryptocurrency users who used the solution before March 25. In total, 231,000 addresses should participate in the airdrop – they will receive 214 million tokens (5% of the total). That is, on average, each user will receive 860 tokens. Earlier, the developers removed 17,000 cryptocurrency wallets from the lists of those who registered for the free distribution of tokens.
