His refusal to subscribe today’s joint statement by European leaders about Ukraine was expressed by Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban ahead of Donald Trump’s forthcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin. Orban, who is in a clear deviation from the line of the rest of the EU leaders, said he did not want to “give instructions from the bench” before, as he described it, a “historic” summit of the two leaders.
