Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said there is “no” acceptable “compromise” at the moment regarding the European embargo on Russian oil, calling for more guarantees for his country’s supply.
“There is no compromise at the moment,” he told reporters as he approached the EU summit, where the 27 would discuss the adoption of a sixth package of sanctions against Moscow.
Orban also said that Hungary needed guarantees that it would be able to buy oil by sea if deliveries via the Druzba pipeline were stopped.
“The problem for us, which we are fighting for today, is that if something happens to Russian oil delivered via pipeline (…) if oil does not come, then we should have the right to buy” oil that will be transported by ship. “This is the guarantee we need,” he added.
