Ordinals token sold for $450,000

A token based on the Ordinals protocol from the Honey Badger collection sold for 10.4 BTC ($450,000). This is a new record in the segment.

The Ordinals protocol allows you to create ordinal numbers for individual satoshis and attach data to them via TapRoot. This technology is used to create so-called Bitcoin NFTs, known as β€œinscriptions.”

The market for digital art powered by Ordinals continues to evolve. On December 7, 2023, it became known that the Sotheby’s auction house put up for auction tokens from the BitcoinShrooms collection.

Honey Badger is one of the early collections, which includes about 10 thousand β€œinscriptions” with a serial number from 8 to 1029518. One of them was sold for 10.4 BTC.

Digital art item number 8 from this collection was purchased by a user of the social network X (formerly Twitter) under the pseudonym OG General. β€œInscription” was purchased by him on the Magic Eden marketplace.

β€œWe love the energy that is in the Ordinals ecosystem right now. β€œSuch large sales as β€œinscription” No. 8 with a price of $450,000 further confirm the value of digital artifacts that are forever recorded in the Bitcoin blockchain,” said Chris Akhavan, head of Bitcoin at Magic Eden.
