Nísia Trindade formally assumed the position of Minister of Health in a ceremony held on Monday (2).
In an announcement to the press, Nísia pointed out the portfolio’s priorities in the new management.
The minister added that, in the next few days, ordinances and ministries from previous administrations will be revoked.
In the coming days, the ordinances and technical notes that offend science, human rights, sexual-reproductive rights and that transformed various positions of the Ministry of Health into a conservative and science-denial agenda will be revoked

Nísia said that, this week, she will publish an ordinance establishing a working group to systematize the policies instituted without agreement, which will be revoked, revised or maintained.
“It will be the first meeting of our tripartite inter-management commission this year, when we will decide on the revocations. I reinforce that this will always be done with this spirit of interfederative tripartite construction”, he said. “We are committed to re-establishing a cooperative rather than confrontational federalism,” he added.
The Technical Health Group of the Transition Cabinet delivered the final work report to the Minister of Health at the end of December.
“The diagnosis made by the Transition WG is overwhelming. In summary: the weakening of the national coordination capacity of the Unified Health System, by the Ministry of Health, and the disarticulation of programs, which resulted in a weak response to the pandemic, with sad indicators, registering in Brazil 11% of deaths in the world, and our population represents 2.7% of the world population. This is inadmissible in a country like Brazil, which has a single health system”, he highlighted.
The Minister of Health says that the results of the work of the transition team reveal a complex health scenario in the country, in addition to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This desolate scenario goes beyond the pandemic, with the disruption of successful programs, such as the National Immunization Program, the Family Health strategy and other structuring actions in Primary Care”, he says.
“In Specialized Care, in lines of care for the entire life cycle, in the Mais Médicos program, which brought doctors to so many regions of difficult access, popular pharmacy, STI/AIDS, mental health, women’s health, population health black people, indigenous health, health of the population with disabilities, oral health, food security, among many others”, he continues.
Nísia stated that well-defined and well-founded national policies run into institutional difficulties.
“At the Ministry of Health, we will work assertively to combat structural racism. As President Lula mentioned, the disease in Brazil has color. The Ministry of Health will regain leadership along with the other entities and no decision of national policies will override the need for debate, accumulation and maturity of decisions taken in the tripartite scope”, he said.
