At least 15 bodies have been found in secret graves in Chiapas — a southeastern Mexican state in the grip of escalating violence attributed to organized crime, its governor announced Saturday. Eduardo Ramirez reported through X to an operation to restore security in the Frailesca district, a rural area a short distance from Guatemala that has been paralyzed by criminal gangs for three years. “Unfortunately, (found) 15 bodies so far in secret graves on properties,” the elected official noted, adding that “four persons were arrested” and “weapons, vehicles and drugs” were seized. However, he did not specify whether the persons arrested are considered to be involved in the deaths of the people found in the secret graves. And in Chiapas, gangs have been embroiled in a war for control of drug-trafficking and transit routes for migrants trying to reach the US. They also commit kidnapping and extortion.
